Musicianship

I began formal violin instruction in sixth grade orchestra and was involved in community youth orchestras throughout high school. Throughout my time at JMU I have been able to participate in many different ensembles, and have a variety of performance opportunities which have allowed to to grow as a musician. Through taking methods courses, I have become familiar with techniques for instruments in the woodwind and brass families which have helped me be more well rounded as a musician and have prepared me to instruct other instrument families.

For this project, I designed this lesson plan for the IB music class at my high school student teaching placement. Prior to this, I sequenced lessons on building triads and dominant 7th chords. I gave the students a chord progression of  I IV V7 I in C major and assigned them to write a short composition with the ableton playground using the chord progression. The students spent 15 minutes in class working on their composition and then took it home to continue working on it to then share in the next class.
